Chermain Wong is a registered Clinical Psychologist working with clients experiencing a range of difficulties, including, mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder), anxiety (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder), trauma, identity issues, and relationship issues.
Chermain was previously the Deputy Head of the Department of Mood and Anxiety at the Institute of Mental Health, where she oversaw therapeutic programs and initiatives, professional education, clinical supervision, public health promotion and research.
Chermain attained her Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and Masters in Clinical Psychology at University College London, United Kingdom and the National University of Singapore, respectively. She is a full member of the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS) and the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA).
She also teaches and supervises graduate and post graduate students at National Technology University and the National University of Singapore. She regularly presents at national and international scientific conferences and is the recipient of multiple scholarships and awards.
Chermain has extensive experience working with individuals and groups. Her special interest is in empowering resilience and growth through person-centered and mindfulness-based approaches. Chermain develops a safe, secure therapeutic environment and collaboratively tailors a customized intervention for each of her clients. Where appropriate, she incorporates evidence-based treatments, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. For clients wishing to further their personal growth and find fulfillment in their interpersonal relationships, Chermain facilitates an online Interpersonal Process Group, which helps client examine maladaptive interpersonal patterns and find healthier alternative ways of relating.
