Dr YP Peng graduated from the National University of Singapore medical school in 1993, became a fellow of the Royal College of Edinburgh in 1999 and obtained his specialist accreditation as a Hand Surgeon from the ministry of health in 2002.

He went on to complete a Microsurgical fellowship at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan and subsequently a Hand Surgery fellowship in Kleinert and Kutz Associates in the US with the Higher Manpower development Award in 2003 and 2004.

Upon his return, he set up the microsurgical training laboratory in the National University hospital and was clinical director and consultant in the Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery from 2006-2008. He went on to head the department from 2009-2012. During his tenure, the department set up the Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery Centre in NUH with a staff of 11 hand surgeons.

Dr Peng’s clinical interest is in surgery for trauma in the hand and wrist, replantation and reconstructive microsurgery. He also provided microsurgical support to the liver transplant teams. He has published on new surgical flap techniques in the lower limb and was on the teaching faculty for flaps of the hand at the recent American Society for Surgery of the Hand meeting. His other clinical interest covers care for degenerative conditions of the hands. He believes that clinical outcomes will determine cost effective treatment in hand surgery, he continues to purse clinical database studies in clinical research.

Dr Peng was a clinician educator during his tenure in institution and was involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. He is regularly involved as invited speaker for local and international meetings. He sits on the specialist training committee in hand surgery as well as the residency accreditation committee at Ministry of Health. He was the president of the Singapore Society for Surgery of the Hand from 2009-2011.

He enjoys running, tennis, the game of golf as well as music and traveling.
